Troyes are back — and the network shaped their squad

ESTAC Troyes returned to Ligue 1 as champions of Ligue 2, having won the 2025-26 title with 67 points and a consistency that impressed all season. It ended a three-year absence from the elite, and the club chose to consolidate rather than revolutionise: coach Stéphane Dumont, the promotion's architect, extended his contract, while Jocelyn Blanchard arrived as sporting director to run the summer's work. Troyes's defining structural fact remains its ownership: the club belongs to City Football Group, the network built around Manchester City, and this window showed both sides of that arrangement. The painful side: star winger Mathys Detourbet, 19, was transferred to Manchester City — and then loaned onward to AS Monaco, so Ligue 1 fans will see him anyway, just in different colours. Goalkeeper Nicolas Lemaître departed for Rennes, and top scorer Tawfik Bentayeb, whose 18 goals led Ligue 2, returned to his parent club at the end of his loan. The helpful side: the network supplied recruits too, with Australian international goalkeeper Patrick Beach signing a five-year deal from sister club Melbourne City. That work is now finished.
