Olympique Lyonnais go into 2026-27 with genuine sporting momentum and very real financial guardrails. On the pitch, the club finished fourth in Ligue 1 with 60 points and returns to the Europa League. Off it, the summer brought a change of era: American businesswoman Michele Kang's takeover of the club was finalised on 26 June 2026, with her vehicle acquiring 87.8% of the capital, and on the same day the DNCG — French football's financial watchdog — confirmed OL's place in Ligue 1 while imposing strict supervision of the wage bill. That combination defines the whole window. Lyon are allowed to compete, but every arrival has to be balanced by outgoings, and the French press has reported a sales target in the region of €20 million to give the budget breathing room. The biggest confirmed sale came early: winger Afonso Moreira joined Bayer Leverkusen on 18 June for a package reported at up to €33.6 million including bonuses. The open questions are on the other side of the ledger: which established players will be sacrificed to hit the sales target the press keeps citing, and can OL keep enough experienced depth to handle a Europa League campaign on top of a title push? Under wage-bill supervision, keeping a highly paid veteran and keeping a promising youngster can be competing choices, not complementary ones.
